We got on the road from Fredericksburg about 9:30 am and headed east through the Texas Hill Country towards Austin. When we left town there were still a lot of people on the street, a lot of them waiting outside several breakfast restaurants in town.
The area is also noted for their wineries and have marketed a "wine trail" of member wineries. I have no idea how good their wines might be, but they are apparently very popular with the locals. In talking with the guy parked next to us at the RV park, he said many of the wineries will not offer wine tastings unless you are a wine club member. Seems like a strange way to do business - how do you know if you want to join their wine club unless you can taste their wines?
Anyway, the route east was along mostly two-lane roads through towns to Austin. There, we had to transition to another route SE to I-10 west of Houston. There was some GPS/route sign confusion, but we navigated through heavy traffic and headed SE, joining I-10E about 60 miles away. I-10 was no bargain, with lots of construction, heavy traffic and the usual collection of tucks, weavers and speeders. We tried to stay out of everyone's way and stopped at a great gas/food stop, Buc-EE's, about 60 miles west of our stop tonight in East Houston (Baytown). We bought some BBQ for dinner and made it to our RV Park for the night around 4:00 pm. It was a fairly tough driving day with lots of traffic, construction and urban driving on narrow lanes.
Anyway, we are here. Louisiana tomorrow (Cajun country - Beaux Bridge) for 2 nights.
