The Phillies played the Tampa Bay Rays today in almost perfect weather. It was mid 80's at game time under clear skies, low humidity and a gentle breeze. Unfortunately, the game was not so perfect as the Phillies lost 8-2. Not much hitting and shaky pitching today.
My sister Eileen and her friend Karen from Largo were here today. Eileen had to leave early however, due to her friend Linda's trip to the emergency room after falling in Crystal River.
After a trip to Wallmart for a few things on the way home, we had dinner at the local Cracker Barrel and watched another DVD before going to bed.
We are slowly adjusting to the time change. Florida has passed legislation to make Daylight Saving Time year-round and is waiting for Federal approval of the change. The intent is to provide more daylight into the evenings to encourage tourist activity later in the day.

Florida Spring Training 2018 - Day 37
It was cold today. The temperature at game time was 58 degrees with a 10-15 mph north wind. we were bundled up but it was still uncomfortable. We lasted until the 8th inning but then our "fun meter" pegged out and we left. The game against the Tampa Bay Rays was tied 3-3 when we left, but the Phillies went on to win 6-3 on a three-run homer in the 9th inning.
After the game we drove up to Palm Harbor for an early dinner at the Lucky Dill, a NY style deli/restaurant/sports bar. The food is authentic NY deli food in a setting with a lot of NY Yankees decor. They were also celebrating St. Patrick's Day week with live Irish music being played by two guys who said they just flew in from Ireland. We have eaten there before and always enjoyed the food and visit. As we left, there was also a bagpiper outside playing for the people waiting for a table.
We have two days off from baseball. The plan tomorrow is a nature hike at Honeymoon Island State Park and other activities TBD. Tomorrow is also forecast to be chilly, with a warming trend into the weekend.

Florida Spring Training 2018 - Day 34
The Phillies lost to the Tampa Bay Rays today. They were leading 3-0 until the 8th inning but lost 5-3 on a 3-run home run in the 9th inning by the Rays. It was a disappointing loss after a well played game until the pitching failed at the end.
The weather was overcast today. They played the game with the lights on but it wasn't cold or windy. The temperature was around 70 degrees with a slight wind out of the south. All-in-all it was an enjoyable day to watch a game.
We returned to the RV after the game and had take-out pizza for dinner. No baseball for the next two days. The plan for tomorrow is to visit another nature preserve down near St. Petersburg.

Florida Spring Training 2017 - Day 60
Well its a wrap! The Phillies played their last spring training game today and tied the Tampa Bay Rays 7-7. Again the Phililes starting pitcher wasn't too sharp, giving up 5 runs in the first four innings. However, they fought back and tied the game at 7-7 and had a chance to win it in the 9th inning, but came up short. Anyway, a long spring training is over and the team is off to Cincinatti to start the season on Monday. And, perhaps for the only time this year, they are presently tied for first place.
After returning to the RV, I cooked steaks on the grill for dinner after relaxing for awhile with a glass of wine outside in the excellent Florida spring weather.
It has been another enjoyable experience down here and we look forward to coming back next year, if we can. As previously mentioned, our plan was to leave here tomorrow and head home with a few stops along the way. Now, with the delay in getting our towed vehicle repaired we will not be leaving here until next Thursday, 4/6. We will still be home as planned on 4/20 (weather permitting). We have cut out one of our 2-day stop in Destin, FL and the 4-day stop in New Orleans. It will now be pretty much a straight shot home, although we still have 2-day stops planned in Mobile, AL, Lafayette, LA and Austin, TX.
Tomorrow, we will check out a local community parade and festival in Oldsmar and perhaps visit the large local indoor flea market just down the road. The rest of our time here is flexible, although none of our activities will involve baseball. We attended 19 spring training games and that should last us for awhile. We may spend another day at the beach.

Florida Spring Training 2017 - Day 28
Baseball today. The Phillies played the Tampa Bay Rays and unfortunately lost 7-2. It was a slow game, mostly Phillies minor leaguers against Tampa Bay minor leaguers after the first few innings. Lots of young players get a tryout early in spring training. In a week or so, many will be reassigned to the minor league spring training camp adjacent to the park and the regulars and some veterans and non-roster players will get progressively more playing time. So even if a game like today was like watching a minor league game, it was still a lot of fun, enjoying the scene, great weather and talking to people from the Philadelphia area, either here for a visit, or relocated to the area after retirement.
After the game Judy decided to do the laundry at the park laundromat just down the road. We had dinner in the RV after that.
