Spring Training 2022 - Day 74

 Remaining flexible, we decided to stay here another day due to weather.  There were still strong winds forecast along our next route to Oklahoma City from the south-southwest, 25-35 mph sustained with gusts to maybe 50 mph.  Also, as the cold front is passing there is the threat of severe weather.  We decided there was no need to push the journey since we are not on a deadline schedule.

So, we just relaxed in the RV today and I caught up on some paperwork that doesn't wait until we get home. 

The weather was as predicted, strong winds and some rain but the skies started to clear in the evening as the front passed through.  the wind remained fairly strong but should subside overnight. 

They have something in their weather forecasts here we don't have at home.  It is called the "dry line".  In the mid-west, mostly in the spring, they are very vulnerable to severe weather, especially strong winds, tornados, and damaging hail.  This weather usually occurs as cold fronts collide with warm air.  The boundry is not always the front but a line ahead of the front where the dew point significantly changes (dry cold air meets wet warm air).  The result is unstable and potentially severe weather along the "dry line".  They had some severe weather in western Kansas last night with a few tornados and semi-trucks being overturned on I-70, but thankfully, nothing here.

Hopefully we will get back on track tomorrow with a relatively short trip to Oklahoma City, then the southern route home.  ETA next Sunday.

Florida Spring Training 2018 - Day 69

Not a lot to report today.  We are staying another day at McConnell AFB in Wichita, KS.

We got out of Lincoln before the snowstorm yesterday and today the strong low pressure area and cold front continue to hammer areas north of us and elsewhere in the midwest and further east.  This deep low pressure area has a strong pressure gradient causing high counter clockwise winds over a large area as it moves eastwards.

The result of this storm where we are is no rain/snow but cold temperatures and high winds.  The temperature yesterday was 74 degrees,  The high today was 40 degrees.  The winds today were also 30-35 mph sustained with gusts up to 50 mph. This is North Dakota weather for sure and very unseasonable, even for here.

The highlight of the day besides avoiding getting blown over while walking, was doing the laundry.  I also made a quick visit to the BX and Commissary for a few things.

The forecast is forto be better tomorrow as the wind subsides.  We are heading south to Oklahoma City then west on I-40 towards home.
