Phillies Spring Training - Day 5

Today we atended our third baseball game, this time between the Phillies and the New York Yankees. We arrived at the park when the gates opened at 10:30 am. It was another record-setting sellout at the stadium and the crowd was gathering well before the game started. We went to the stadium store (Diamond Outfitters) and bought a few Phillies souveniors and gifts, then had a leisurly ball park breakfast/lunch before the game started.

We had different seats today - this time just behind the visitors dugout on the first base side of the field. There were a fair number of Yankee fans at the game, especially in the area where we were sitting. Their spring training site is just across the bay, so they were playing close to "home". We were closer to the playing field today and we got to see a lot of the players, especially the Yankees,up close.

Alas, the Phillies didn't play very well and lost 8-1 to the Yankees, who seemed to be taking the game more seriously than the Phillies regulars. They appeared to be mostly just going through the motions as spring training winds down.

It was also very hot in the sun watching the game - 80 degrees and cloudless skies. It is hard to believe we are here complaining about the heat while the weather is still cold, wet and snowy back home.

The Game

After the game we came back to the hotel to cool off and rest before dinner. We decided to check out an Italian restaurant that specializes in "A Taste of Philadelphia" Italian food. The restaurant sells the pizza at the ball park, and it certainly tasted like east coast pizza. When we arrived at the restaurant, we discovered it was take-out only. So we got take-out (a pizza for me and pasta and Italian sausage for Judy) and took it back to the hotel. We ate at an outside table, and watched another beautiful sunset. The food was very good and about as close as you can get to Philadelphia Italian food this far from Philadelphia.
