Jazz Fest Trip - Day 3

Today (Easter Sunday) we drove south from Las Vegas through the Mojave Desert and across the new bridge over the Colorado River by Hoover Dam.  Unfortunately, you can't see the river, the canyon, the dam or Lake Mead from the bridge, which is about 800' above the water.  Anyway, we had seen all that last year when we toured the dam after our visit to the Grand Canyon.

We finally reached the Sonoran Desert about 50 miles north of Phoenix, AZ when we started to see Saguaro cactus growing among the other desert plants.  The land here is very rugged as well as dry; there are many deep canyons and large rock formations to be seen.

As we drove through Phoenix, the wind was picking up, blowing a lot of dust across the road from the west.  It was a difficult drive for Pat after that - both hands tightly on the wheel and Big Mother and The Green Machine being moved around by the wind.

We arrived at Las Colinas RV Park around 4:30 pm.  The park seems very nice - clean, well-run and secure and the people are friendly and helpful.  We have already been invited to Easter Sunday dinner this evening by the camp hosts.

Tomorrow we drive to Las Cruces, NM.
