New Orleans/FL Trip (Day 1) - Nevada City - Edwards AFB

We got underway on schedule at 8:00 AM from the Nevada County Fairgrounds RV Park. The roads were dry and the weather slightly overcast. Once again, We didn't forget a thing because we brought it all with us - sort of like the Okies.

The trip was uneventful: traffic wasn't too bad and the scenery in the valley along Highway 99 was, you know, Stockton, Modesto, Manteca, Fresno, etc., but the Kings Canyon, Sequoia area of the Sierra Nevada off to the east is snow covered and very beautiful. After turning east from Bakersfield, the trip over the Tehachapis went well. Again, very pretty and the roads were dry over the 4000 ft Tehachapi Pass.

The Edwards AFB FAMCAMP(RV Park) is in the Mojave Desert and not a garden spot, but a good place to stop. It has full hook-ups and even a few trees. It is also not too hot this time of year. The temperature seems to be about in the high 50's. We arrived on schedule at 4:00 PM and took a short walk over to the BX/Commissary complex which is right across the street (actually we did forget a few things). The facilities are really nice which is good for the Airmen stationed here as there is not too much else close by.

After a great spaghetti dinner, we are heading for bed and an early start for Phoenix in the morning.

See you then.
