We left Destin, FL at 7:15 this morning, taking a short diversion to refill the propane tank. Our heater has been on almost constantly at night and during the day when we were in the RV at the campground. We have been using a lot of propane; since we usually camp in the summer, we have never camped when it was so cold for so long (32 degrees on some nights). And this was the year we picked to go south for the winter!
The trip from Destin to Jacksonville, FL was uneventful - the weather was clear, temperature in the mid 60s, and the traffic was mostly light. We are staying at the Pelican Roost RV Park in the Mayport Naval Station near Jacksonville. The park is right on the end of the St. John's River near the ocean. The water is beautiful and there are many large naval vessels (It looks like a destroyer/frigate squadron) moored within view. Pat grilled a flank steak out for dinner and we ate it in style with all the fixin's, plus ice cream for dessert. This is called "roughing it."
Tomorrow we are driving the VW down the coast to St. Augustine, FL to tour that area.
