New Orleans/FL Trip (Day 11) - New Orleans

The buses picked us up at 8:00 am for the trip into the French Quarter for breakfast at Brennans, another famous New Orleans restaurant. The food was outstanding. We had baked apple in cream sauce, Eggs Benedict, and Bananas Foster for desert. It was not exactly a low calorie meal, but delicious.

After breakfast, we separated into small groups and went on a 2-hour walking tour of the French Quarter with local guides (Chris again). The tour was very interesting and we learned a lot about the history and culture of the French Quarter. The buses picked us up at the Old U.S. Mint and we were back at the RV park before 1:00 pm. The plan was to go back into town tonight for three more parades but we learned on the way back that the parades for tonight have been canceled due to the weather. Right now, it is raining with a little sleet mixed in and it is expected to continue into tomorrow. We thought about going into town on our own this afternoon, but decided to stay in and have dinner in the RV. Early to bed and a good nights sleep is life in the fast lane at Mardi Gras tonight.

Tomorrow is a bus trip to tour two antebellum plantations outside of town and we have an indoor activity tomorrow night (Bal Masque) - a dress-up event with cocktails, a catered dinner, and dancing follwed by a "Tableau" (we think it is kind of a floor show) preformed by the Krewe of Carrolton. The weather looks pretty good from Saturday on so we are keeeping our fingers crossed for better weather - and warmer.
