We went to the beach today, travelling over to Honeymoon Island and taking the ferry to Caladesi Island.
Caladesi Island is a barrier island just off shore from Honeymoon Island. It used to be connected to Honeymoon Island but a hurricane in the 1920s created a new channel and a new island. We have been to Caladesi several times in the past and it is always been a fun experience.
The ferry from Honeymoon to Caladesi is small (about 50 people) and the ride is only about 15 minutes long. This is the only way to get to the island except by your own boat and maybe walking across from Clearwater Beach at low tide.
We rented a umbrella and two beach chairs and just relaxed and enjoyed the sunny weather and mid-70s temperature. We had a hot dog from the beach snack bar for lunch and I walked the 1.3 miles along the beach from where we were to the north end of the island to the channel separating the two islands, now called Hurricane Pass. There were lots of sea birds and I also found a few more shells to add to our collection along the beach and back, not that we need more shells.
After we returned to Honeymoon Island about 4:00 pm we stopped at Frenchy's just over the causeway separating Honeymoon Island and the mainland for another great beach dinner before returning to the RV for an early end to the day. It was an excellent adventure and great to get to the beach before we leave.
More baseball tomorrow - two games to go.
