More baseball today. the Phillies played the Baltimore Orioles and won handily. The difference in spring training this year is that since it has been compressed, the teams are playing more of their regular players and keeping them in the game longer. Top minor league prospects with a chance of making the team and free agents invited to spring training also get a fair amount of playing time. but maybe not as much in previous years.
It is a tough profession to reach the top levels and the dream continues for many who will never make it. The pyramid narrows quickly. The large input of Hispanic players from the Carribeen, many very talented, is a ticket out of relative poverty for many and their families and their progress is followed very closely in countries such as Dominicia, Venezuela, Cuba, and also in Puerto Rico.
There are 4 spring training games left. The regular season starts on April 8th and they will play the full 162 game schedule. Due to the late start, the teams will play a larger number of double headers to make up for the delayed 1st week of the season.
