We left the RV park at our normal time with a planned stop at the Brooklyn Knish shop near the ball park. Alas,it appears the shop is closed. We called their number and it has been disconnected. This is a huge disappointment for us as we really liked their knishes and were looking forward to them. Not enough "knishers" in the area I guess.
The game was another good one for the Phillies. It was a split squad game where half of the team went to Sarasota to play the Minnesota Twins and the rest stayed home to play the Baltimore Orioles (we saw the Orioles game). The Phillies won both games , 8-4 and 4-2.. The weather was perfect again, mid 80's, no humidity and a breeze from the SE.
Our impression of the Phillies so far is more positive than last year. They have a lot of new, younger players who, so far, seem to be performing well.. Some of them are still a year or more away from the major leagues, but it is a positive sign for the future. The players who will be playing for the Phillies this year are also doing pretty good. The starting pitching staff is mostly young with a couple of veteran pitchers in the mix. So far they have been pitching pretty much above expectations The relief pitchers, maybe not so so well. They have around 20 relief pitchers trying to fill maybe 6 slots on the roster, so there is still time to sort it all out. No one is really standing out so far, but the competition is on-going.
The Las Vegas over/under odds for the number of Phillies wins this year is 67 1/2. There are a total of 161 games in the season. At this point, I might be inclined to go with the "over" but will wait to the end of spring traing before making a final prediction.
After the game, we returned to the RV and I grilled hamburgers for dinner.
More baseball tomorrow - the Detroit Tigers.
